Decorative Window Film
Window film used to have a bad reputation, but it has come a long way the last decade or so. Decorative window film looks great and is a lot less expensive than other window decorations.Windows have obviously been with us for a very long time. That being said, they have always come with a certain weakness to them. Specifically, they can be a bit bland. The answer for most people has been to look to window treatments to spice them up. Such treatments have ranged from valances to drapes, blinds and so on. Decorative window film used to be well down the list, but no longer.
Decorative window film is exactly what the name implies. It is a film that is applied to a glass surface for decorative purposes. The decoration is usually a pattern or some image that fits the overall look one is seeking for a room. The problem is said films used to look pretty cheesy because, well, you could tell a film had been applied. Modern films, however, are much thinner and more detailed. This makes them simply superior.
There are also practical reasons to use window films. The first is for insulation purposes. Windows let heat out during the winter and in during hot summers. That sends your utility bill through the roof. Certain window films come with an insulation factor that can cut the transfer rate by up to 80 percent, which will make a huge difference with your energy bill.
A second practical use for decorative window film has to do with birds. Birds have difficulties dealing with windows. They will fly into clear windows because they simply do not realize that the glass is there. If your windows reflect trees in the area, birds will fly into the glass thinking they are headed for a tree. Although the bird might rise and fly away, one out of every two will eventually die from internal bleeding. Putting decorative window film up breaks up the window for the bird and greatly decreases the number of incidents you’ll experience.
So, what type of decorative window film should go with? It just depends on your personal taste. There are so many choices available that you are bound to find something you like.
