Stain Glass Window Film

Stain glass is one of those love it or hate it subjects. It can also be very high maintenance, which is why stain glass window film is becoming very popular.

I’ll admit it. I hated stain glass when I was a kid. Why? It reminded me of all those Sunday mornings when I was in church instead of out playing! As I’ve grown a tad older, I’ve come to enjoy it for the impressive technical ability involved in making it and the simple grandeur of the designs you see. Yes, even those in churches! That being said, stain glass is one of those home improvement ideas that sound good, but can be a bit of a problem.

How can this be? Well, it is a bit like owning a Ferrari. It is a blast to drive, but comes with a ton of practical limitations. You really don’t take the Ferrari to the grocery store if you know what I mean. The same goes with stain glass. It is created for beauty, but not much else. Thieves love it because they can pop it out with little effort. It does horrible things for your utility bill because it is the opposite of energy efficient! It will let rain in during storms along the seams. Sometimes, it just starts falling apart.

Stain glass window film is designed to give you the benefits without the drawbacks. The film comes in a host of different styles and shapes to match the windows in your homes. It also works great for glass doors. Regardless, the application is as simple as cleaning the window thoroughly and then placing the self adhesive film onto the glass. You then use a flat edge to brush away any glass bubbles to get a finished result.

Now I should mention that window films have a long history of…how shall I say this…looking terrible. We’re talking really, really bad. Fortunately, that history has changed dramatically as a lot of research was put into creating insulating window film given the cost of heating these days. The films became much better at insulating and the design quality also improved dramatically. The stain glass version looks “3D” with the texture you would expect from real film. It is very nice and the cost of between $15 and $50 a window is certainly nice.

Stained glass is a favorite of many people who often come to rue their decision in getting it when problems start occurring. With stain glass window film, you get the positives without the negatives.
