Ideas For Interesting Window Treatments
Window treatments can change the entire tone of a room. With that in mind, let’s talk about some different ideas for interesting window treatments.Words like “interesting” are a bit dangerous. What is interesting to you may not be interesting to me and vice versa. This simple truth should give you some insight into the possibilities when it comes to window treatments. Simply put, there are a lot of directions to go. Some you will love, some you will hate. The choice is yours, so don’t hold back on your decision.
The first issue to consider is do you want to cover the window or frame it? There are two primary approaches to treatments. One is two frame the top of the window and the sides. This can be done with a valance and curtains. The second is to have the top down option to cover the window. This can be done with something like roll down blinds. The key is to make a decision and then stick with it throughout the home. There is no right or wrong answer per se.
If framing is the option you prefer, then I recommend you look at a valance with swags and perhaps an underlying pull back curtain. A valance runs across the top of the window. Swags come down at a triangle and then curtains hang vertically. This can really crowd and overwhelm the window, so you can use pull back to pull the curtains back to the side and allow for a view and light to come in. It is a classic look, one that will always be popular.
A top down approach has also become popular in recent years. A top down approach simply means a top fixture treatment that drops down. Vertical blinds would be an example, but they don’t look great when it comes to the various window treatments available. A better approach would be to consider something that ties into the interior and the surrounding geography. A home in a warm area might be perfect for roll down bamboo blinds or what have you.
Whatever direction you go, color is something that you should really give some thought to. Interesting window treatments are those that really add to an interior. That means contrast needs to be considered. Ultimately, you want to use the treatments not just to dress up the window, but to add something to the room. A white valance on a white wall is pretty blah, but a red curtain on a white wall is dynamic.
When it comes to ideas for window treatments, the world is really your oyster. You can pretty much do anything you like, but try to be consistent throughout the home.
