Christmas Window Decorating Ideas
Christmas is upon us, which means it is time to do some decorating! With this in mind, we've put together these Christmas window decorating ideas for your joyful consideration. The first thing to consider before decorating your windows is...well, your windows. In this case, I am talking about their health. They are designed and constructed to create a water tight seal on a penetration into your home. The things being prevented include water penetration, but also the exchange of heat. You don't want to do anything that might impact this. Hammering nails into a window frame creates a hole where water can get in. Hanging frame hooks to hold decorations create cracks that let heat escape in amounts that will drive your utility bill into the atmosphere. In short, be careful!
When considering decorating ideas, one approach is to think interior versus exterior. This is particularly true when it comes to lights. If you want to hang lights on windows, consider doing so from the interior of the frame instead of the exterior. You can attach them without compromising the window frame or creating gaps for heat to escape. In addition, the lights will actually produce just enough heat to help counter any thermal loss in the windows.
If there is one decoration you must have for the holidays it is the traditional window wreath. They also make great window decorations. You can place them over each window as you find them to look the best. Securing them is obviously an issue. Again, you do not want to penetrate the window frame with anything. Your two best options are either to use suckers on the windows or string the wreaths up by hanging two strings or wires from above the wire down to the wreaths. The sucker solution usually is iffy at best because they tend to fail. The string option works well unless you live in a windy area.
The best approach when it comes to Christmas window decorating ideas is really to stick to the interior of the home. You can hang lights on the eve of the roof and on plants outside to create the exterior look you really want without risking damaging your windows. You'll still get the festive look you want without having to worry about the damage caused.
