Fiberglass Window Manufacturers
Windows have obviously been around for a long time, but they keep evolving and fiberglass is a new approach. Let’s take a look at the fiberglass window manufacturers.Windows have traditionally been made out of wood, but there were inherent problems with the windows over time. They could be attacked by bugs or simply rot. To cure this, manufacturers looked at other options and came up with vinyl and aluminum options. Again, each had its good points and bad. The latest trend in window design is the use of fiberglass.
Why fiberglass? Well, manufacturers have been looking for a window that will not rot. Fiberglass meets that requirement. The companies, however, have also been looking for a material that will not expand and contract in different temperatures or warp which is a major problem with vinyl versions. Finally, the goal was to find something that looked good, which aluminum windows tend not to. The end result was the creation of fiberglass windows that are currently all the rage.
Marvin Window and Door Company has developed a material called Ultrex. The material is claimed to be a highly durable, nearly maintenance free fiberglass that can be used for windows. As you can probably guess, Marvin has done just that. It has launched the Integrity line of windows, which use Ultrex and are thus fiberglass. The company also has a line of replacement windows called Infinity that use the same material.
Pella Windows has also come out with its own particular type of fiberglass. It is called Duracast. Duracast is touted as being nine times stronger than vinyl and will last much longer than typical windows. The Pella line incorporating Duracast is called Impervia. Don’t you just love these names?!
Anderson Windows also have a fiberglass composite product. Shocking, eh? It is actually released under an entirely different division of the company. The division is called “Renewal” and the fiberglass mix is called “Fibrex.” If Anderson has an advantage over the others, it is that it offers the windows in 22 different colors. This may sound strange, but fiberglass degrades when exposed to sun. As a result, it must be painted by the manufacturer to prevent major problems down the line.
The big three are the major players when it comes to Fiberglass window manufacturers. These windows tend to last longer than any others, but also tend to be more expensive. This is a big deal for some people, but less so for others. Only you can decide in your case.
